FAQ

How do I validate a GSTIN for free?

Paste the 15-character GSTIN and this page checks its structure and the official GSTN checksum in your browser, with no upload — and decodes the state code and the embedded PAN. A valid checksum means it is well-formed, not that the business is registered.

Does a valid checksum mean the business exists?

No — only that the number is correctly formed and its check digit is right, so it is not a typo. Confirming the business is actually registered requires the GST portal; this is an offline format and checksum check.

Is the GSTIN uploaded?

No. Validation runs entirely on your device against the public checksum algorithm; nothing is transmitted, and it works offline.

What do the parts of a GSTIN mean?

The first two digits are the state code, the next ten are the holder's PAN, the thirteenth is the entity number, the fourteenth is Z, and the last is the checksum.

Limits

Checks format, checksum, state and PAN. It does not query the GST portal for registration status.
