FAQ
How do I check if a PAN is valid for free?
Paste the 10-character PAN and this page checks its format in your browser, with no upload, and decodes the holder type from the fourth character — P for individual, C for company, and so on. A valid format is not proof the PAN is active.
What does the fourth letter of a PAN mean?
It encodes the holder type: P is an individual, C a company, H a Hindu Undivided Family, F a firm, T a trust, and others. The validator names it for you.
Is my PAN uploaded?
No. The check runs entirely on your device; nothing is transmitted or stored, and it works offline — which matters for a sensitive identifier.
Does this confirm the PAN is real?
No — it checks the format only. Confirming a PAN is issued and active requires the income-tax portal.
Limits
Format and holder-type decode only. It does not verify the PAN against any government database.
