Why pixels and not characters?
Google truncates titles and descriptions by pixel width, not character count, so a title of wide letters is cut sooner than one of narrow letters. Estimating pixels is closer to what actually happens than a character limit.
Is my data uploaded?
No — the check runs locally and nothing is stored; it works offline.
What lengths should I aim for?
Roughly under 580px for titles and under 990px for descriptions — the tool flags when you cross those, but treat them as guides since Google varies the exact cut-off.
Limits
Pixel width is estimated from average character widths, so it is a close guide, not Google's exact renderer.
